Joint Isolation
Introduction
With Yogger, users can use precise joint isolation and tracking in motion capture playback. The automatic joint tracking and isolation allows users to quickly and automatically calculate joint angles and perform other analysis, including alignment and symmetry.
Location: Once a video is recorded or uploaded, the joint isolation is located in the playback view. In playback view, enable the joint isolation feature by clicking the ‘angle’ icon on the left-hand side. From here, select which joints you would like to isolate and ensure they are in the correct camera view.

Purpose and Functionality
Joint isolation allows the user to analyze just one or one set of joints at a time. When enabled during playback, the joint tracking will appear, and the instantaneous angle of each joint will appear at the bottom right. To better understand what data you are observing, try toggling different angles at a time.
How to Use
Navigate to playback view and press the ‘angle’ icon. This will open a menu for joint isolation selection.
When choosing joint angles to select, the accuracy of the angles will improve when you use film or record in the correct anatomical planes of motion. If you are unfamiliar with the different planes and measurements in the plane, please refer to our blog post here.
The app assumes the user is recording in the correct plane to calculate joint angles. Use sagittal view for Flexion-Extension, Internal-External Rotation, Dorsi-Plantarflexion, and frontal view for Adduction-Abduction and Knee Valgus-Varus.

Isolating Joints and Angles

Once a selection of joints is made, the interface and joint lines drawn will automatically be updated. The lines will now only track the selected joints.
At the bottom right of the screen (2), the instantaneous joint angles will appear. These measurements will change as the user moves through the video and update with each frame.
To reset the isolated joints, press the top menu button “toggle tracking button” (1). Pressing the button once will turn off all tracking, then pressing again will reset to the default skeleton.
Tips and Best Practices
Joint isolation and tracking is one of the main features of Yogger. The ability to instantly calculate joint angle data provides opportunities for coaches, athletes, trainers, and healthcare workers to make better judgments and provide an analytical approach to their practice. Key uses include:
- Assessment and Monitoring: Track progress, identify limitations, and make adjustments to training or rehabilitation programs.
- Injury Prevention: Identify potential biomechanical issues and implement corrective exercises to reduce injury risk.
- Customization: Tailor exercise routines to individual needs and limitations.
- Rehabilitation: Assess rehabilitation progress and make real-time adjustments.
- Performance Optimization: Optimize athletic performance by fine-tuning techniques and maximizing efficiency.
- Documentation: Use joint angle measurements for progress tracking and treatment planning.
- Remote Monitoring: Enable virtual consultations and adjustments to plans.
- Real-Time Feedback: Provide immediate feedback to clients or athletes.
- Research and Analysis: Use data for research to identify trends and best practices.
